Academics

Education is not the amound of information that is put into your brain and run riots there, undigested, all your life. We must have life-building, man-making, character-making assimilation of ideas. If you have assimilated five ideas and made them your life and character, you have more education than any man who has got by heart a whole library

-Swami Vivekananda

THE CURRICULUM

Our aim is to provide the child with the best globally accepted education so further education and career opportunities will take precedence thus he or she can be a perfect international Indian.

The Pre-School provides a curricular framework, which is custom, designed for the children attending pre-primary. Keeping in mind their needs and level of readiness, we take into consideration the cognitive, intuitive, social and nonverbal skills of a child. Learning at this stage is informal, activity based and experiential. At this tender age emotional, physical, mental and psychological needs are addressed.

The Primary, Middle and High School programs are centred on the holistic development of the child through activities, class and group project and experiences A progressive curriculum is designed to emphasize skill based learning through active participation as the children progress their knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes and actions acquire a new meaning. The teaching style involves A “do & learn” methodology.

In the middle school apart from honing the academic skills of a child we lay great emphasis on life skills. We deal with these crucial years of child’s education with sensitivity and a constant endeavour to bring out the best in him or her.

The academic year is divided into the trimester system, (three semesters). At the end of each semester the parents are invited to see and discuss their ward’s progress.

At Saraswati International School the tiny tots learn through exploration & experience because we believe in Confucius’ theory of learning i.e.

“I hear” and I forget

“I see” and I remember

“I do” and I understand

The height by great men reached and kept, were not attained by sudden flight. But they, while their companions slept, were toiling upwards in the night.

- H. W. Longfellow

The Academic Evaluation Process is highly objective, continuous and comprehensive for both scholastic and non-scholastic achievements of the students. A student’s performance is graded in all the core and non– core subjects.

There is no formal examination up to Primary stage.

From Middle onwards in the scholastic category. The students are constantly evaluated by means of unit tests, surprise tests & semester examination in all the core and non-core subjects.

Non-core subjects such as music, art, craft, computer science, life skills are graded. Internal assessment is based on the student’s performance in projects, assignments and class participation.

Apart from this, their social and inter-personal skills and personality traits and value system are also graded.

PARENTS' MEET

Progress should be recognized and reinforced at every tiny step. Price of perfection is always prohibitive and mistakes should be allowed as part of learning process.

Student centred education identifies each individuals strengths and weaknesses and uses the former to eradicate the latter. We believe in Professor Howard's Theory of 'Multiple Intelligence.' Hence we give more importance to project based learning. Presentation is an essential component in the learning process. This implies imparting up to-date curriculum and knowledge based learning; also enabling and equipping the learners and nurturing their abilities and learning skills to the extent of their caliber.

'Shaping attitudes to apply their knowledge, skills and abilities.'
